We have nothing left": israel's war on lebanese families
Description
Hi everyone! 🌟
Our Landscape Erased
By November 2024, the World Bank estimated that 99,000 housing units in Lebanon had been partially or fully destroyed, with border towns described as "wastelands" and "ghost towns". Over 4,244 people had been killed, including 341 children (an average of over three children per day) and 962 women. More than 16,000 were wounded.
This is not a story of statistics. It is a story of families erased, of villages reduced to craters, of children pulled from rubble, and of a relentless propaganda machine that calls systematic destruction "self-defense."
Visual Evidence: Reuters satellite imagery from Planet Labs shows white splotches replacing entire neighborhoods—where homes once stood. The New York Times has verified videos of Israeli soldiers cheering as they detonate explosives across entire villages.
Part I: Fifty-Five Villages Erased — The Systematic Destruction of Southern Lebanon
The Numbers of Ruin
Between October 1, 2024, and January 26, 2025, Israeli forces destroyed or severely damaged more than 10,000 civilian structures in at least 24 municipalities of southern Lebanon. In three municipalities—Yarine, Dhayra, and Boustane—over 70% of all structures were heavily damaged or destroyed.
The Israeli military demolished at least 1,085 buildings in six villages within weeks of its October 1 ground invasion. Entire neighborhoods were reduced to rubble.
Before and After: Satellite imagery reveals Kfarkela's main road—once lined with houses and green vegetation—now a string of white splotches where homes were pulverized. Meiss al-Jabal, a town of 8,000 people, lost at least 311 buildings; an entire block near the town center, measuring approximately 150 by 400 meters, was flattened.
Mhaibib: A Village Ceases to Exist
In October 2024, the Israeli military destroyed nearly every building in the village of Mhaibib, just over a mile from Israel's northern border. Satellite imagery shows that only a couple of buildings were left standing.
A video that circulated widely online shows soldiers in Israeli uniforms reacting with exclamations in Hebrew as they watch buildings explode simultaneously. Another video, published by an Israeli radio station, shows soldiers giving thumbs-up signs as they watch the destruction on a drone controller screen.
Research by the New York Times suggests Mhaibib was completely destroyed by a series of detonations.

Aita al-Shaab: 64 Destroyed Sites
Satellite images from 5th of May 2026 show at least 64 destroyed sites in Aita al-Shaab, a village reduced to ruins after months of Israeli airstriks.
